The Supreme Court Advocates-On-Record Association (SCAORA) has officially requested the Supreme Court of India to improve its security and tech systems by introducing biometric access, including fingerprint and facial recognition, for easier and more secure entry into court premises.
In a letter dated June 2, 2025, addressed to Mr. Shekhar C. Munghate, Secretary General of the Supreme Court, SCAORA’s Honorary Secretary, Mr. Nikhil Jain, made a strong case for upgrading the court’s outdated entry system.
The letter stated that the Supreme Court, being the highest court in the country, should also have top-level infrastructure and security:
“The Supreme Court is the peak of our judicial system. Its tech and security setup should match its importance. We suggest improving the current IT system to reflect this.”
One of the key suggestions in the letter was to replace the existing proximity card-based entry system—which is often lost or stops working, with a biometric access system that uses thumb impressions and facial recognition.
SCAORA pointed out several benefits of this upgrade:
Stronger Security: Only verified individuals will be able to enter, reducing security risks.
Ease of Use: Lawyers and staff won’t need to worry about misplacing access cards.
Better Records: Every entry and exit would be logged automatically, helping with data tracking and administration.
The association believes this change is a necessary step in modernizing the court's functioning, making it more efficient, secure, and tech-friendly.
The letter ends with a clear request to consider and implement the proposed system:
“This move would be a big step forward in making the Supreme Court more modern and secure. We kindly ask you to take this proposal into serious consideration and help make it a reality.”
